Derek Olson – Intern
Meet our newest intern, Derek Olson! Derek was born and raised here in Kirkland, and recently graduated from the University of Washington in Civil Engineering. In September, he will be starting graduate school at UW, enrolled in their Structural Mechanics Master’s program.
Derek has two indoor cats at home that helped to keep him company during the pandemic, so he built them an outdoor enclosure for the back deck which he likes to call the cat apartment complex so they could get some fresh air. Derek’s favorite thing about engineering is learning the tools and concepts to tackle any problem, such as the cat apartment complex! He also enjoys learning how to cook different cuisines from around the globe and is practicing to get better at chess.
